How to compress images without losing quality
Published 2026-09-02
Image compression is a balance between file size and visible quality. Our Compress tool uses MozJPEG for JPG files with progressive encoding and trellis quantisation, which typically saves 40 to 70 percent with no visible change.
PNG files are optimised losslessly with OxiPNG, so pixels are untouched. SVG files are minified: editor metadata, comments and redundant attributes are removed.
If a file would grow after compression, you get the original back and the result card says so. Nothing is ever made worse.
