Make background transparent: free transparent PNG maker

What a transparent background means
A transparent background has nothing behind the subject at all. Put the image on a blue page and you see blue around it. Put it on a photo and the photo shows through. That is what you want for a logo on a website, a sticker, a product shot inside a design, or a signature on a document. No white box, no visible edge.
Only some formats can store transparency. JPG can't, so any empty area gets filled, usually with white. PNG can, which is why the tool saves transparent results as PNG files. Many editors show see-through areas as a gray and white checkerboard. That pattern is only a way to display empty space. It is not part of your image.
How to make a background transparent
1. Open Remove background and click Select images, or drop your JPG or PNG files onto the page.
2. Choose a Subject: Person for people and pets, Object or product for things, Logo for graphics on a plain color, or Signature for ink on paper.
3. Under Background, make sure Transparent is selected. It is the default, so you usually don't need to change anything here.
4. Click Remove background and wait while the tool finds the subject. Then click Download images to save your transparent PNG files.
Logos and signatures
A logo saved as a JPG almost always sits on a white box. Choose Logo as the subject and the tool removes the plain color around the edges and keeps the graphic. It doesn't need the AI model, so it starts right away. It works best when the background is one solid color, with no shadow, gradient or texture behind the logo.
For a signature, sign on plain white paper in good light. Take a photo that fills the frame with the signature, then choose Signature. The ink stays and the paper goes. You get a transparent PNG you can place on a document or an email footer. If no signature is found, retake the photo with more light and less paper around the ink.
Fix what the AI missed
For photos, the AI does most of the work, but small spots can slip through. Click Fix by hand to open the cut-out. Use Magic to select an area of similar color, or Pen to draw around it. Then choose Erase to make it transparent, or Keep to bring it back. Removed areas stay visible in the editor, so you don't lose a fingertip or the rim of a bottle by accident.
Soften edges adds a slight blur to the border of your selection. A few pixels is usually enough to stop a cut-out from looking pasted on, especially around hair and fur. If a fix goes wrong, use Undo, or click Undo all fixes to start again from the AI result. Your settings for each image are kept until you remove it from the list.
Keep the transparency when you share it
Transparency only survives in formats that support it. If you later convert your PNG to JPG, the empty areas are filled with white. Some apps and websites also convert images when you upload them, so test once before you rely on it. For print or a slide, place the PNG in your layout first, then export the final file.
Everything happens in your browser. Your images are processed on your device and are not uploaded to a server. That makes the tool a good fit for logos you haven't launched yet, signatures and personal photos. Close the tab when you're done and nothing is left behind on our side.
